Shanghai

Shanghai was once a little fishing village. Today it is a huge metropolis. What happened? Well England happened. They saw Shanghai as a great trade port that could connect everyone. They had also added some of their culture while they were there. Today Shanghai has some british quarters. They have british architecture and a museum dedicated to its colonial history. This just goes to show that whenever a country comes in contact with another country a mark is always left.

  1. It is interesting how we can still see signs of England in Shanghai. What are some other ways that English culture is still evident there?
Since colonization always leaves a mark in its colony, it explains why the US has such a mixture of different cultures.

  2. I agree. It's very interesting to think of how British culture has integrated with many different parts of the world, including Shanghai. There is no doubt that British culture is traced back with many marks of their colonization in Shanghai.

  3. I find this interesting because the British changed Shanghai for the better, perhaps. They probably are making a lot more money than they would have made if they were still a fishing village. However I'm sure some violence took place, which is bad. But now, Shanghai is a mixture of both Asian and European cultures.
