Colonial Influences

Spain, at one time, held control over most of North America, including what is now the United States. At the time Spain gained much power and wealth from holding so much important land. They also gave much in the way of cultural influences to the natives and to the colonists. Some big things the Spanish brought were metal and livestock. Both these things changed the way that people lived. If these things had not been brought to the new world, then the ways that Native Americans worked and hunted would not have changed. However, their culture was based around the way they hunted, and Europeans changed that. Whether or not this was for the better depends on who you talk to and their point of view.

  1. I agree that the standpoint on whether it was good or not depending on who you talked to. The Native Americans might not have wanted the new culture/lifestyle, while the Spanish may have seen it as beneficial to themselves and helpful to the natives.

  2. This point of view shows the lighter side of european impact upon the natives. Spain did contribute many things to them, which improved their lifestyle. But this improvement only stood for a small amout of time considereing the fact that soon Europe (Britain) drove the natives out of their original territory.
