The Colonization of Brazil

It was in April of the year 1500 that Pedro Alvares and his ships landed on the coast of Brazil. Upon them landing, they were immediately greeted by dark skinned, naked people who were native to the region. These tribes of people laid down their bows and arrows, offering peace to the European colonizers. It was in the next nine days that Pedro and his men began to change the culture of the native Brazilian people. They did this by showing them Catholic Mass, and intriguing them with their own personal beliefs. They also were introduced to the Alcoholic drink, and their facisination with the Catholic beliefs allowed the Europeans to believe that they would all soon be Christian converts. In the following years, the Europeans and the natives got along very well. They began to trade products between the Portugese people. After this, the life of the people native to Brazil changed in a very drastic way. By doing this, both the colonizer's and the people of the colony became aware of new cultures.
