When France colonized Canada, they influenced the country a lot. Canada was discovered by the French in 1534 by Jacques Cartier. The French then began to trade with the Natives. They traded iron knives, copper kettles, blankets, ect. for animal furs and fresh meat. In 1603 Pierre Du Gua de Monts was in the trading buisiness. He didn't like the winters there because he couldn't trade in the winter because he had nowhere to stay. He decided to build a colony so that he could stay and trade in the winter. So he set up a small colony.
In 1627 Cardinal Richelieu (a trader) was assigned to bring 4,000 settlers to Canada. He was also supposed to set up churches and teach people about christianity. So the French people tried to convert the natives to christianity. This is just one of the many things that they did to influence Canada and their culture. France brought their religion, language, and goods, and the effect of all of these can still be seen in Canada today.
