Colonization of Brazil

The article that I researched reminded me a lot of the movie we are watching called the mission. It really brought to my attention that the Portuguese bombarded the natives as if they could use them as slaves. The portuguese seemed to think of the natives as objects and not humans and that really struck me. I can not imagine being thought of as an object. The natives were very quick to think and really tried to help themselves. Like we see the movie, missionaries came to help the natives in any way they could and that we gave the natives some reassurance. The Portuguese started to colonize Brazil around the 1500's or so. It really makes me wonder what would it be like now to be colonized by a country. That makes me curious to think about why people felt the need to colonize a country and not care about the people who lived there first. The colonization of Brazil is very interesting and really makes me think.
