French Indochina
In 1887, the area known then as Indochina, became a French Colony. Today, Indochina is now Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. When France colonized Indochina, they introduced Catholicism to the natives, as well as the French Language. The French were not successful in maintaining peace, as numerous revolt attempts occurred, with the indochina war of 1954 ending France's stay in the area. The Colony itself was not an important possession, as there wasn't too much raw material France could use and the people were greatly opposed to their stay, which greatly complicated things. One thing France was successful in Indochina was introducing Catholicism, which is now a major religion in the area, although the native religion Buddhism was never toppled.

I wonder how the natives felt about this new language and religion. I wonder what it would be like to be living somewhere and then someone comes and sets up a colony and introduces a new religion and language like what happened to the natives of this place. It seems like a lot of times when there is colonization there is also some sort of fighting, and this is another example of it.
