Colonization of Brazil

In April of 1500, the ship under Pedro Alvares Cabral anchored off on the Bahian coast. The Native Americans were already on this island, and laid down their bows and arrows as a sign of peace when they saw the ship. For the next five centuries, these people would exchange culture, which resulted in the Brazilian culture. The Portuguese quickly learned that these people didn't have a religion, and decided that they should be Christian. In 1504, other countries wanted the land that the Portuguese had. By 1530, they realized that they either had to give up their land or get the native americans off the island.
