British Colonizes the Bahamas

The British started to colonize the Bahamas in 1669 with a providence settled. But at first the people that lived there now had little interest in the colony. This attracted a lot of pirates because there wasn't government officials and authority. But in 1671 John Wentworth was appointed governor by the propeteirs. Charles town was established in 1660, but its name changed to Nassau. The colony gained slaves from Africa which were used to work in the cotton plantations. Slavery though was abolished from the Bahamas in 1839.
I think the colonization of the Bahamas was very weird yet interesting for many reasons. One if the British took so much effort to colonize it than why did the propeteirs lose interest. This also cause many problems with pirates that could of been prevented by setting up a government. One of Britain's main strength though was their navy so it really helped keeping the island.
