Ghana in the early 1600s was being colonized by many different European countries and the colonizers changed the countries way of life drastically. Once the Europeans came, they established a trade for gold and for slaves, and the people native to Ghana helped the Europeans by getting them these things and in return trading the natives things that they have never seen before, like firearms. The settlers changed the natives culture because they now look for other tribes, their own people, to give to the Europeans for the slave trade and they are also affected by the items that the Europeans gave the natives in return for the slaves and gold.

Ghana was in a bad conundrum at that time. Many of the natives became slaves and were forced to work. I think it just makes it confusing that there was so many people trying to colonize it at one time. It also reminds me of the native Americans that also saw firearms for the first time and other new stuff the European countries brought with them.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it must have been confusing and there also must have been a lot of battles over Ghana. In India, as well as Ghana, the British brought new resources to improve the country, primarily for the army, but it led to using the Indians as slaves for their goods. It seems that there an ongoing pattern with using the natives as slaves throughout a lot of countries that were being colonized.
ReplyDeleteI think i see a ver common pattern with the Brithish and there colonies... Every where they made a colony they either made everything really expensive or they made slaves.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the influence of many different European countries changed the lifestyle and culture of the people of Ghana during colonization. It's interesting to point out the foreign items the native people of Ghana came in contact with during the colonization of so many different European countries.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone. The Europeans obviously influenced Ghana tremendously, even though they took advantage of them. This also reminds my of the Eurpeans coming to America.
ReplyDeleteI also to agree with everyone commentnts. This sounds like a typical country colonizing another. There many benifets and negatives of Ghana being colonized.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that it was very nice that they traded slaves. It also sounds like they gave up their own people to the slave trade in some cases. It's amazing that they had never heard of some items before they were introduced by the colonizers.
