Global Policy Forum Response
My article was about how Wal-Mart is building a huge 71, 902 square foot store right between the ruins of giant pyramids in Mexico built by the Mayans, which the Spanish monks found in 1548. This is also a place where many merchants come to sell their goods, you can get anything from fruit to jeans. Some compare this erratic Wal-Mart invasion to the Spanish conquest. Doing this would provide about 200 jobs, but it would also take away the business of the merchants selling their goods a half a mile away from a Wal-Mart. Building this is also trampling on their Indian heritage. I think that this is ridiculous. I believe that if Mexico really needs a Wal-Mart, then don't build it on something that is part of someone's heritage. Just find another 71, 902 square foot piece of land. Is it really necessary to build a Wal- Mart on top of someone's heritage and take away other peoples jobs and income?
