End of Poverty Response

"Extreme poverty can be ended, not in the time of our grandchildren, but our time." That sentence was the first sentence I read and it really made me think about the issue. I said from the beginning that I felt we could end poverty, not in a couple days but over years and years. According to Sachs' research he feels that we can end extreme poverty by 2025. He also gave us ways that we can help and it really impels me to want to make a difference. He said we can do things like write your political representative, organize letter-writing campaigns, write letters to local newspapers, join existing networks, such as the Global Call to Action Against Poverty, and join in The Millennium Campaign. That proves the point that just being one person can make a difference in the life of another person, and it doesnt have to be just throwing money at them. When I saw the graph it was really shocking to me that the U.S. had, by far, the most money to still give in order to meet the .7% needed from them by 2015. That makes me really want to do things like write to the newpapers and our political representitives. Another quote that really stuck out to me was, "The single most important thing you can do is to make sure that your government is following through on its existing commitments to support the Millennium Development Goals." To me this shows that we have to rely on the government in other countries and our own to actually do what they say they will do and when money is given to them, like from the WB for example, that they are doing what they say they will do with it. Honestly I feel like the task of ending extreme poverty is extrememly possible and we should do anything in our power to see it done, maybe it won't happen while were living, but for me I would like to leave the Earth knowing that I helped against the fight to end poverty and you never know what happens after you die.
