The Story of the Suez Canal

7) The new invention that sped up the project of the Suez Canal was the "elevator" principle.
The elevator and backhoe dredged the the muck and dirt of the bottom and placed it on the banks. This helped because it cut out a lot of manly labor. It also was better because it reduced a lot of cost, and helped in the speed of completion.
