Many people did not agree with the Canal. Lots of newspaper articles were against it too. Some said that it would remain a "stagnant ditch". Others said that the canal would be impracticable. Some one said that there was a 30 ft. distance between the 2 points and it would be something like a giant waterfall. (This was later proven false.) The Edinburgh Review said that a railway would be just as convenient.
