Netscape

Netscape is an American developer of Internet software. The company was founded in 1994 as "Mosaic Communications Corp", they later changed their name to "Netscape" as a result of a dispute with the University of Illinois who already had rights to the name "Mosaic".The company offered a graphical interface to replace UNIX OS line commands over the Internet that was free. The system was a simple point-and-click interface that made it easier for finding, viewing, and downloading information over the Web. This made it much easier for accessing information online, and connected people all over the world together. In October of 1994 the company created a new web browser called "Navigator". The company offered free down loadable trial versions on their website."Navigator" was a success and many people started downloading the browser and visiting the website. In August 9th 1995 Netscape first released their stock. This release of their stock caused a public sensation, and many people started buying lots of stock in the company. After Microsoft's release of their browser, which was free, and other computer programs, usage of "Navigator" declined and the company was later purchased by AOL.

  1. I think that it is very interesting how our world is changing. Globalization is happening every day and is helping our world to change and is making everything interconnected. As Lauren said, Netscape was the first "real" internet browser that allowed people to search the internet. This made information available to anyone and made it much easier and faster to access. This helped to make the world more "flat" and helped to connect the world. And already things have changed again so much that now you don't hear about Netscape. You hear about Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google. In not that many years our world has changed a whole lot and globalization has increased greatly.
