Question #6 on Handout
The people who were opposed to the idea of the canal had several arguments. The majority of these arguments were in the British newspaper articles. These arguments include; there was no pier that could be built since it was uneven on both sides, they called it a stagnant ditch also because it was uneven on both sides, it was too expensive to construct, and transporting goods by rail would be much easier financially and transportation wise than a "stagnant ditch" as they emphasized throughout the article.
