The Story of the Suez Canal #7
Digging the Suez Canal would've been a long and tedious process, much longer than it already was without the help of machines. A machine was invented that used the elevator and backhoe concepts. Basically, it dug out the dirt and put it to the sides of the canal. Interestingly enough, on August 15th(my birthday!) the Suez Canal opened in 1869. People from all over came to see the opening of it, including the Empress who had travelled all the way from Paris just for the occasion.
