7.) The object that they used to speed up the construction of the Canal was a new invention. It used the same concept of an elevator and a backhoe. It would dig under the ground pulling up dirt and putting it to the side. This was very useful and was originated by the steam engine. Lastly the Suez Canal opened in 1869.
