Wide Angle
I thought that this video was really interesting because it compared how different kids around the world go to school. It showed how there are some children who want to learn and have many obstacles in their way, compared to how here, at MFS we don't have many obstacles compared to other kids around the world. I found it particularly interesting how Jefferson from Brazil had to deal with the sounds of gunshots and the effects of the drug buissness there. He also was a smart kid which was why his mom wanted him to stay in school and enrolled him in an afterschool church program. I think that the decision to keep him back in school can either be really good or really bad because if he goes to middle school so young he might be pressured by older kids, and if he stays back he could get bored and might want to leave school. I really liked this movie.

I really agree with you about Jefferson. It's really sad that he had to be held back because of his age. Here we don't think of school as a privilege, we think of it as a duty. It's sad that people who really want to learn don't have the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you on this topic. I found it depressing at how here school is a "duty", as Maggie said, but also in the eyes of others, many of which are represented in this movie, school and education are a privilege. This also made me think about how life in America is sometimes taken for granted.
