Wide Angle Movie Response

Every day I get up and attend school without even thinking about how lucky I am to be doing what I do. Most of the time, I'm not happy to go to school or to attend my classes. However, the Wide Angle movies reminded me that there are millions of young children who do not have the privilege I'm lucky enough to have. To see children from Afghanistan and Benin saying how much they enjoy school and how much they look forward to testing and learning new material really opened up my eyes. This video allowed me to not only learn about myself, and the opportunities I'm given each and every day, but to see into the eyes of another. I had no idea what it was like to be living in countries such as those until I watched this movie, and saw for myself the every day lifestyle of young children. It is one thing to be told what children who do not attend school do every day, but it is another thing altogether to see it for myself. I had not realized that children such as Shugafa, from Afghanistan, are fighting to go to school. Every day she is placed in a dangerous environment and surrounded by people that are constantly telling her "No". She is a woman, meaning in her country, it is not accepted to go to school. However, she continues to go and puts herself in danger just to pursue her education. I admire the children that perservere and do this every day, and too see their lifestyle first hand allowed me to see into the eyes of another culture altogether. I enjoyed the Wide Angle movie so much, and I strongly recommend it in years to come.

  1. I completely agree. I think that we don't realize just how luck we are to have the things we have, these children have a small fraction of what we have and consider themselves lucky.

  2. I agree that the videos were eye opening. Although I have heard the statistics of how many children aren't able to attend school, actually seeing their day to day lives made it seem more real. Having this awareness, we can now try to do what we can to help children in need of an education. For example, I know of many charities which send school supplies to foreign countries.
