"i hate school" -That is a phrase that comes out of my mouth way too much. This video really gives you a persepctive of how good you have it. Education is so common and such a basic right you would not think that some billion children do not go to school and that around 10 billion are fighting to learn and stay in school. I did not pay much attention to the fact that teens my age and older are not able to add 2 + 2. The three children that we learned about so far have such a difficulty to get an education. One parent laughs at the idea of school becuase she really thinks it is so unuseful and pointless. Another parent says: "i'm afraid of stray bullets and i'm afraid my daughter will become a whore or my son will be a drug dealer." Also, this one hardworking mother is so glad when her daughter gets home so she can take a break while her daughter helps with the house chores.
In Afghanistan, it is so dangerous for girls to learn becuase of the high descrimination against girls. There even was a poisoning gas attack at the school -"when will there be peace?". Many people are so uneducated about how getting an education and going to school is important and it can help you suceed. One third of the countries children go to school and most are not girls and 3/4 have dropped out by now. Not only this but being basically like a mom to a family of thirteen and doing household chores and trying to juggle school all at the same time does not work -there is not enough time.- "people who don't go to school live like the blind."

Odeymarys, I agree so much with your post. We really need to appreciate the education that we have. It hurts me so much to know that there are kids that cannot get an education. There are so many kids and teens that are illiterate and that is sooo sad. The movie gave me such an aspect on how these kids are striving for an education and they really want to make a change when they are older. Like what you said, girls are so discriminated against in Afghanistan that it is so hard for them to get an education and that is soo sad and awful. You wrote a great post!!
ReplyDeleteI agree completely and it really surprsied me to that the kids in this video had such a hard time finding an education. This video also showed me how lucky I was just like it did for you. I couldn't believe how truly bad the discrimination against girls in Afganistan was and it makes me appreciate where I live more. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone, but there was one child that not only had adequate education, but better education than we get. Ken from Japan is going through the toughest education that sounds absurd here. What I found was that most people saw the ones with little to no education but don't forget Ken and how different his system is so much different than everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you too. It is important to realize how fortunate all of us to have this education. I also think its important to realize how important school is to the children we watched in the movie. They persevered through many circumstances and challenges because of the passion they had to go to school.
