U.S. Constitution- Beccaria
Beccaria focused on the justice system, he believed that laws existed to preserve social order, not to avenge crimes. And his general idea was applied in the United States Constitution in Amendment 8, and it states, "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

Brett,
ReplyDeleteGood use of comparison with Beccaria to the 8th ammendment, it seems interesting how the 2 relate. How did his thoughts get used in that ammendment? It seems a little unclear.
Ben,
ReplyDeleteHe said that the punishment should fit the crime, and not be too harsh or no harsh enough. And that is what the 18th amendment states
Here is the link that i forgot to put up, sorry!

Great post! This quote is exactly like the thoughts and beliefs of Beccaria during the Enlightenment. Great job.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. It's great how Beccaria's thoughts from the Enlightenment are still used in today's U.S. gov't system.
