We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
John Locke helped establish liberty throughout all of America with his saying that every citizen is entitled to liberty, and if liberty is not given to the citizen, they have the right to overthrow their government. "Establishing Justice" also came from Beccaria, whose ideas on the death penalty and the crime and punishment carried over into the United States justice system today. Welfare is also relating to John Locke, since he said that government should protect it's citizens in every way it knows how. Welfare is one way the United States government protects the poverty stricken people of our country.

Great post Nicole! I like how the first line of the preamble of the United States Constitution completely reflected alot of the Enlightenment ideas. My post on Czech Republic sounds like yours as well with a democracy!
