Article 67- "Citizens are guarenteed freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly demonstation and association." Basically the same rights that Voltaire said citizens should have.
I decided to do my research on a country that is socialist to see how they compare to the enlightenment thinking of the European countries and the United States. Most of the articles were about the same as the United States today. The constitution was made known on September 9, 1998.
Another example that was being shown was Article 68 which stated,"Citizens have freedom of religious beliefs. This right is granted by approving the construction of religious buildings and holding of religious ceremonies." Which Voltaire also said citizens have that right also. The people of the country have those rights but are brainwashed to the point where they don't know they have these rights. Whereas John Locke said if the government doesn't provide these rights then the people have the right to overthrow the person that's in charge. They wouldn't try to overthrow the dictator of the country because it could lead to serious chaos and perhaps the downfall of the country.

I think it's very interesting how the North Korean government basically ignores its own constitution, because those rights mentioned are obviously non-existint.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a totalitarianism kind of Government. I think that the people in charge have become so warped with power that they are purporsely forgetting the constitution.
ReplyDeleteNorth Korea is just sick. They don't care about there citizens the way they should and they don't understand what caring and understanding means. I wish the people of North Korea would revolt but they are just too scared due to what happens to anyone who doesn't obey the law.
ReplyDeleteMatt Brown, they can't revolt because they don't know how to. One of the basic rules of totalitarianism is keep the outside world outside and the inside world in. If they knew about all of the freedom that we had don't you think that they would revolt in a second? But no the government would probably keep all of these topics out of school and out of people's lives. If someone went to North Korea and started spreading anti-propaganda one of two things would happen:
ReplyDelete1. They would be shot on the spot.
2. They would be ignored then shot.
BAsically they don't know that America could win their freedom but at the cost of probably another world war. NK is allied with Iran and Russia and the US is allied with everyone except a few (kind of a love us or hate us thing). But good article CJ.
