The Czech Republic Constitution reflects the ideas and thoughts of the Enlightenment. An example from the constitution is :
... resolved to build, protect and develop the Czech Republic in the spirit of the inviolable values of human dignity and freedom, as the home of equal and free citizens who are conscious of their duties towards others and their responsibility towards the whole, as a free and democratic state...
I think that statement listed in the preamble states alot about how every human is equal and should be treated equal just how John Locke believed. Also, Czech Republic agrees with a democracy and that is exactly what Rousseau believed which also goes into how Montesquieu created checks and balances. If Czech Republic uses a democracy then that must have some how been influenced by Montesquieu. The Czech Republic Constitution reflects and was influenced by the Enlightenment in a strong way.

I like how you quoted the Czech Constitution. I completely agree that any democracy must have been influenced by Montesquieu. I liked how you also brought Rousseau and Locke into the equation. Great post.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I also agree with Maggie. It would almost seem as if the preamble is a nice summary of the Enlightenment thoughts!
