Sachs on Science, Technology and Poverty Response
I really enjoyed reading this article because it was extremely realistic, and Jefferey Sachs described the issue of global poverty in a very passionate way. When reading this, it was obvious to readers that he was extremely caring and passionate about what he was saying, and truly believed that poverty could be eradicated completely. Sachs focused more on the positives of the article rather than the negatives, which I thought was a good way to approach writing about this issue. It let readers know that there was hope to end poverty, and instead of discussing the components limiting the eradication of poverty, he spoke about the things that would bring us closer to its end. Also, this article depicted habits extremely realistically. Sachs described the fact that while humans will always do what they think is right, they will always think of themselves before others. Humans will always do what they think will benefit themselves the most, which is the reason why eradicating poverty is such a hardship. He also goes into detail about how, specifically, it could be ended. Jefferey Sachs says that if the richer people in the world would give more to the poor, the problem could be solved much easier. However, because humans think of themselves by nature, this is a tough thing to accomplish. Overall, I feel like the article was informative but also extremely realistic.
