Tycho Brahe was one of those to try out all those mathematical calculations of the motion of the universe. His life was pretty interesting. He lost his nose to syphilis, he would drink too much, and he died of his bladder exploding.
Anyways, Brahe did not agree with Copernicus's view of the sun being the center of the universe. He strongly argued that the earth was the center of the universe. To back this up, Brahe recorded many astronomical observations and calculations. These tables and calculations made up the best astronomical observations. In fact, it proved that the Copernicus system was a more accurate model of the universe than everyone thought. Basically, Tycho Brahe helped as he could, but he mostly just worked with the math aspect of it all.

Even though Tycho Brahe believed that the earth was at the center of the universe, he was still able to contribute to the ideas of the earth and its relation to the universe by recording astronomical observations and calculations. And ironically his observations and calculations helped prove that Copernicus' system was more accurate. Also it stinks that his bladder exploded, that just seems like a really painful way to go.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you included the fact that Tycho had a rough life outside of his studies, unlike the other post i had read. It is interesting how someone of his background could be so highly intrigued by mathematics in relation to the study of astronomy. Agreeing with Lauren, I agree that it is ironic that his life's work proved the complete opposite of his goals.
ReplyDeleteI like how you inform about the conflicting ideas between Copernicus and Brache. I agree that he sort of did all the calculations and was more of a math excelling person. Now we know that his arguments about earth being the center of the universe were in fact false. I feel like the church kind of wanted that idea that the earth was in the universe and didn't try to stop him because they believe in some of what he believes. Later on Galileo discovers that earth is not in the center and that it only makes sense that the sun is in the center of the solar system.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's certain that this man lead a very interesting life, even though he had somewhat of a boring profession. Perhaps his most unfortunate part of life was his death, but his in his research, Brahe fervently opposed the Copernican universe. I think it is truly remarkable that his calculations actually became the basis for proving the Copernican system to be a more accurate model of the universe.
