In France former Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin is facing charges for smearing a campiagn targeting Nicolas Sarkozy has repositioned himself as a rival for the 2012 election for President. He was accused of taking part in a failed plot to smear Sarkozy before gthe 2007 campaign when the two rivals were competing the succeed the current president Jacques Chirac. Villepin wants to make a internal split in the French right and wants to work towards a alternative force. Because of this Sarkozy has been forced to to slow down on his reform drive to public oppostion and discord within his own UMP party. Recently Villepen critized France's public debt to youth unemployment and the government cracking down on immigration. The fate of Villepin potentially in the hands of the judges who will pronounce him guilty or non guilty
