The Cuban Revolution
In 1952, Batista overthrew Cuba's president, Carlos Pri Soccaras. For the next seven years, Fidel Castro tried to overthrow Batista's government. After being defeated when he attacked military barracks in Santiago, Castro was sentenced to 15 years in jail. But, Batista released him two years later. Castro gathered another group in Mexico but was defeated again by Batista's army. He then used guerrilla tactics to try and overthrow Batista. Along with other rebellions in Cuba, Batista resigned and fled the country.
