Supply Chaining

A supply chain is a network of retailers, transporters, distributers and suppliers that Boldparticipate in the delivery, and sale of a product to the consumer. It's usually made up of multiple companies who manage certain activities to set their company apart from everyone else's. A supply chain has three main parts; supply, manufacturing and distribution. Supply focuses mainly on the raw materials that are supplied. How, when and from where they're from. Manufacturing focuses on changing the raw materials into finished products and distribution focuses on making sure the product gets to where it needs to be. An example on a supply chain is Wal-mart. They don't sell any of their own products, they're like the middle man. It helps the more important companies that are sending them products, makes it easier for them. It makes the world closer because products from many places are being sold in one spot.

  1. I believe that the supply chain stores such as Walmart and target have no real purpose. All they do is take other peoples products and sell them to other people doesnt that cost the store more money?

  2. Sam,,,no it doesnt cost the store more money it actually makes it alot. Since walmart buys the products from other companies and sells those same products at a lower cost, it attracts many shoppers (hence walmart making lots of money). Also, because walmart serves as the middleman it is very efficient with the whole idea of "supply and demand".

  3. I agree. Supply chain stores, specifically Walmart, have a core purpose of using other company products to sell and lower price, hence their slogan "Always low prices". Target has their own brand of products, but can still be considered a middleman because of the many products from other companies that they sell.

  4. I agree too. These companies like WalMart have no real purpose other then to make money, by selling already created products. They are only a middle man, and somewhat increase the price of the product. If you were to buy it in bulk straight from the factories it would be cheaper then if you bought it from Walmart. They dont supply, they simply distribute a product.
