Poem About Child Labor
The primary source that I found was a poem about a girls day in a factory. It basically talks about how her day starts at the break of dawn and she works outrageous hours. As soon as she gets to the factory she is abused by the overseer and exploited by the company. She knows that she will probably never escape this reality or that she will end up dead like her little brother. At the end of the poem she does end up dying after her shift, probably from starvation or exhaustion. This account may not be real, since it is a poem, but it still gives us a window into the reality of factory workers.

Great Job Simone!
ReplyDeleteMy source was similar this except that my source was written from a witness of the events rather than a victim of these factories. Just like in my article, the factories were mostly women and were not fit working.
Thank you, and I just read your post. The descriptions are very heartbreaking! The fact that woman and children were put through so much pain and suffering is difficult to believe.
ReplyDeleteI liked this source Simone!
ReplyDeleteI found reading the poem very interesting. Although my source was also on child labor I found this article very interesting also.
Awwwh. This was actually a really good and deep poem. Very sad though. It helps describe there working conditions well though. Just imagining, after reading those thought, what went through a child's mind is truly heartbreaking.
